When referring to someone who used to weigh 980 pounds, a weight loss of 60 pounds might not sound all that impressive. But Paul Jonathan Mason of Ipswich, England just lost 60 pounds of pure skin.

Mason, who has appeared on The View and TLC, underwent skin removal surgery several weeks ago. A team of five New York surgeons performed the operation.

"The surgery results are… amazing," Mason wrote on his Facebook page following the procedure.

Mason started packing on the pounds in his 20s after his father passed away, until he gained the title of world's fattest man.

The change was so dramatic that in 2002, firefighters had to demolish the front of his house to get him to the hospital for a hernia operation, the Daily Mail reported.

"If you see yourself in a mirror, you think you're looking at another person, not yourself," Mason told TLC at the peak of his weight gain.

It took 10 years, but in 2010, the National Health Service finally approved gastric bypass surgery. He lost about 600 pounds, thanks to the surgery and a healthier lifestyle.

But Mason plateaued because his excess skin was keeping him from losing any more fat. He needed a skin removal surgery "in order for him to gain his mobility, be able to exercise and lose more weight," according to his website.

Now in the wake of his skin removal surgery, Paul is recovering and even taking walks with his fiancee Rebecca.

"I'm so happy to be continuing my journey towards the life I want to live with Rebecca," Mason wrote on his Facebook page.
