Every breastfeeding Mom needs to know the technique of hand expression! This can be started in the FIRST HOUR of your baby's life. PUSH-PRESS-RELAX. Making a C around the breast (a few inches away from areola) PUSH into the chest wall, PRESS fingers together, then RELAX your hand. REPEAT. Can be done solely by mother or with a partner. Studies have shown increased supply with mothers who use this tool. It is useful to express some milk onto nipple and areola before latching to entice baby to breast, as well as to keep them going once attached. It can also be used to express some breastmilk into a small cup and feed to a newborn when they have difficulty latching or want a little more after a good breastfeeding session.
