At one point in time, Shoaib Malik was the nucleus of Pakistan Cricket. After the shambolic 2007 World Cup, he was given the role of leading the team into a new era. With Geoff Lawson by his side, he initially took the charge head on. However, politics and team culture soon changed Malik's leadership ambitions, and eventually his playing capabilities as well.
Rejected as an outcast, Malik spent most of the past 5-6 years proving his merit in the domestic circuit only to fall short in the international circuit, again and again and again.
So when Malik was picked for the historic T20 matches against Zimbabwe in Lahore, the fans all had their suspicions. Yet there was lingering hope in seeing the old Malik. This time it was different.
Malik dominated the T20s that he played. Soon enough, he got picked for the ODI team. A century in his first innings after his come back, and he never let go. Breaking away from the shackles of the past, Malik would not stop there.
There was one final frontier. The one format that had been his nemisis was for his to conquer. So PCB astonishingly gave him the chance to prove himself. And then this happened.
Will Malik sustain his form? We do not know for now. But its so good to have him back, at least for now. He has the whole nation by his side.
Enjoy this video tribute I made for him. My apologies for not making a video over the past two months. I only make them when I have a good idea in mind. Happy watching!
