National award winning actress and dubbing artist Kalpana (50), passed away in Hyderabad today as she suffered a massive heart attack. Kalapana is survived by her only daughter Sreemayi and the divorced husband actor Anil Kumar. She is also the elder sister of veteran actress Urvashi.
Kalpana made her acting debut with 'Manju' directed M.T.Vasudevan Nair in 1983. She has acted in hundreds of Malayalam films since then.
She made her Tamil debut playing Bhagyaraj's well educated and pious wife in the super hit 'Chinna Veedu' and became popular in Kollywood as well. She is remembered for her roles in director Balu Mahendra's 'Sathileelavathi' and 'Pammal K.Sammandham' the two films in which she acted with Kamal Haasan. Her last film in Tamil happens to be 'Kaaki Sattai' in which she played Sivakarthikeyan's mother. Her overall last film was the Malayalam film,'Lavender'
Kalpana has won the National award for the Best Supporting actress for her performance in the Malayalam film 'Thanichala Njan' that released in the year 2012.
Kalapana is also a well known dubbing artist in Tamil. She has lent her voice to popular comedienne Archana. She also dubbed for the film 'Vaigai Express' last week.
