Top 5 first class cabins in the world? My personal blog thoughts here: backpackerlee.wordpress.com/2014/07/23/top-5-first-class-cabins-in-the-sky/
Join me on my trip of a lifetime aboard my favourite aircraft model operated by my favourite airline, no less in the first class private suites - what Singapore Airlines calls 'a class above first'!
Unlike with other airlines operating with private suites and cerebral lounges, I actually felt a little apprehensive filming during the day, as the tradition and highbrow nature of the occasion got to me a little.
My morning began at 5.30am when I went to Changi Transfer Desk A and obtained my Suites Boarding Pass (embossed in gold, obviously). I then went immediately to the flagship Silverkris Gold Lounge, which incorporates separate lounges for Business and First Class passengers, as well as the ultimate invitation only lounge known as 'The Private Room', which is for Suites passengers only. What you see in this film is entirely from The Private Room, as I did not stay in the other lounges. I had waffles and strawberries for breakfast, accompanied by orange juice, and then read the newspapers in total luxury until it was time to board SQ856 to Hong Kong.
The service onboard in the suites class was nothing short of legendary; every crew member addressed me formally by my name, and everybody went out of their way to make all Suites passengers feel at home. There were 5 of us I think, with 4 choosing a 'window suite' (that sounds good :D), and some woman wanted a double cabin in the middle to herself.
I had no appetite to eat large portions, even though I had pre-booked the cook. I ordered Fried Chicken Breast, which unbelievably I forgot to film before I scoffed it down. It was delicious, as you would expect. For dessert, there were some lovely raspberries and macaroons, complimented by ice cream.
As you may see from my inadvertent showing of the 'Suites Menu' (that sounds good, too :D), there is a Suites Exclusive cocktail, a variant of the famous Singapore Sling, known as the Silver Kris Sling - basically a fusion of Gin, Cointreau, and topped with champgane, no less! I tried it, but at such an early time of the morning, I wasn't going to drink much! It was very strong! ;)
Anything disappointing? Well, I thought the windows were far too far away from the seat, I could not enjoy the takeoff or landing very much, nor look at the cloud formations which always seem to be pretty weird around Hong Kong, for some reason. I also learnt that, unlike Emirates in their A380 First Class configurations, SQ do not have a first class only toilet. Business class passengers can use the same toilet, which I guess doesn't really matter, but it is something that Emirates does better. Also, it was too misty on the approach to Hong Kong, made filming a waste of time, but that's not Singapore Airlines' fault!
However, I am very delighted that I finally got to experience SQ in their class above first. The Singapore Girls (and guys) really go out of their way to represent their country and flagcarrier airline with pride, and it is no wonder people continue to pay the premium to experience such treatment! It really is a great way to fly!
