Vin Diesel is set to shoot a sequel to one of his action movies and it doesn’t have “fast” or “furious” in the title and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed! If you’ve been waiting with bated breath for the return of Xander Cage, your patience may finally pay off. Thanks to the success of the Fast & Furious franchise, Vin Diesel has been given the opportunity to bring some of his passion project to the big screen like 2013’s Riddick and this year’s The Last Witch Hunter. Another movie that he’s been trying to get made for a long time is a third xXx (NOTE: Pronounced “Triple X”) film. The first film was released in 2002 and starred Vin Diesel as “Xander Cage”, an extreme sports athlete with a criminal past that is recruited by the government to become a secret agent in exchange for his record being cleared. Think Suicide Squad meets James Bond. That film was a big success earning around $270 million worldwide on a budget of $70 million. A sequel was released in 2005, but instead of Diesel, the film starred Ice Cube and only managed to gross $66 million worldwide on an estimated budget of $87 million. Needless to say, the demand for a third film was pretty low, but according to Diesel, production on xXx 3 is set to begin in the Philippines this December. Diesel took to Instagram to make the announcement posting the following pic with the caption, “While I was filming xXx, guys on set called me Air Diesel..The time to return has come.” With a rumored subtitle of “The Return of Xander Cage”, xXx 3 has been in development since 2008 and Diesel has been giving periodic updates ever since even suggesting Katy Perry could be his “X Girl” in a Facebook post last year. Original xXx director Rob Cohen was at one point attached to helm the sequel, but no word yet on if he’ll return. As for the plot of the film, it’s rumored to focus on Xander Cage seemingly returning from the dead in order to take on a new mission with his handler, played by Samuel L. Jackson in the original films. No word yet on when we can expect xXx 3 to arrive in theaters, but a late 2016/early 2017 release seems likely. So, who out there is excited for Vin Diesel back as “Xander Cage” for a third xXx movie?
