Bangladesh is full of water. But most groundwater is contaminated with high levels of arsenic, salinity or iron. The consumption of this water leads to severe health damage that occurs only years later. The goal of this innovative pilot-project was to create sustainable access to safe water for the people in hotspot-areas. At six sites in Southern Bangladesh solar-water-disinfection-units were installed. Instead of using ground-water the widely available surface water from ponds is purified. The sustainable operation model with community-groups is a key element of the project.
