Premature ejaculation (PE) is a condition in which a man ejaculates sooner than he or his partner wants it. PE is also known as rapid climax, premature climax or early ejaculation. According to Masters and Johnson, PE is defined as the space in which a man ejaculates before his sex partner to reach orgasm. Other sex researchers have defined PE to occur, if a man ejaculates within two minutes of penetration, but the research of Alfred Kinsey in 1950 showed that three quarters of men ejaculate within two minutes of penetration in over half of their sexual encounters. Self-reported survey had up to 75% of men ejaculate within 10 minutes of penetration. Today, most sex therapists understand PE as occurring when there is ejaculatory control interferes with sexual or psychological well-being of one or both parties.
Psychological factors commonly contribute to premature ejaculation. While men sometimes underestimate the relationship between sexual performance and emotional well-being ejaculation, premature infants may be caused by temporary depression, stress on financial matters, unrealistic expectations of performance, a history of sexual repression, or the general lack of confidence. Interpersonal dynamics strongly affect sexual function, and PE can be caused by lack of communication between partners, hurt feelings or unresolved conflicts that interfere with the ability to achieve emotional intimacy. Neurological PE can also lead to other forms of sexual dysfunction, or intensify the existing problem by creating performance anxiety. In a less pathological context, PE can be caused simply by extreme excitement.
