The Ultimate Fighting Championship is the largest mixed martial arts promotion company in the world and was founded in 1993. In recent years, the UFC has held over 300 events, and the top fighters in MMA fight for the UFC. Popularity for the fighting company has skyrocketed, with more and more people buying access on HBO and other channels, and buying tickets to watch the fight live. For the longest time, men dominated the UFC and there was little interest in women’s fighting, as it opposed the general perspective on what a woman should do with her free time. However, in 2012, Dana White announced that the UFC would start including women, and the first fighter they signed on was Ronda Rousey. February 2013 marked the first fight between two signed female MMA fighters.
Rousey became the first female champion of the UFC, along with being an Olympic medalist, and the first woman to defend her title. After that first fight and the positive reception by the fan base, the UFC signed on more women and filled up their roster to continue more fights. The women’s category has two weight classes called Strawweight and Bantamweight.
And with this, has come harsh criticism of women’s bodies who fight by men. Perhaps it’s because the women participating in these fights have the capability to kick asses and take names, all without breaking a sweat. Many of the female fighters have been accused of having masculine figures from their weight training and fitness program. But in all honesty, the figures of these women are truly beautiful and they exhibit the symbol of strength and perseverance. Maybe men are threatened by this idea and the thought that a woman could royally kick their ass, thus disrupting the ancient hierarchy where men had to protect the women from harm.
This video contains ten women who can kick some major ass. They have dominated the UFC fighting ring, have killed enemies in the midst of war, and have even challenged men to fight them, lest we forget the time when Ronda Rousey challenged Floyd Mayweather to fight after it became known that he beat his ex and the mother of his children.
Strong women are finally becoming more popular. It is even reflected in Hollywood with the change from helpless female lead to a strong female lead who is at the forefront of revolution and changing history and the status quo. Movies are being made and books are being written about the women who were able to hold their own without men as well as fighting for equal rights. Again, this may be seen as a threat to men, as it could potentially jeopardize their roles as head of the household and being the breadwinner for the family.
But let’s face it; strong women are now becoming part of the norm. This is thanks to the women who are part of UFC and kicking ass, and the gentle helpless woman will soon become the endangered species and find strength in the fighters and be able to stand on their own
