Over the years, I've heard probably hundreds of tabla solos from all kinds of artists, from promising beginners to talented local artists to undisputed world renown masters both live in person and on video. But sometimes a particular performance is so good, it becomes a true classic. I believe this is one of the absolute best solos ever rendered by the great Ustad. Seems that all the necessary elements are on display: natural aptitude, practice, composition, balance, virtuosity, power, speed, clarity, confidence, flair, and the love of the instrument. I hope you really enjoy this masterful classical tabla performance by Zakir Hussain. Incidentally, I recently attended a live Hazir 2 concert and he brings a thoroughly unique and refreshing accompaniment to ghazals that'll challenge even the best players to replicate. He's truly in a class by himself. Wah Ustad! I think we're really lucky that we all live in the golden age of tabla. Hopefuly, but probably unlikely going to be such a select crop of truly gifted and committed pure tabla masters in the future. Enjoy!!
