Heavy clashes have erupted as Syrian rebels backed by hardline hardline Islamist brigades attacked Al-Qahtaniya village. Al-Qahtaniyah is located in Al-Quneitra region. Opposition fighters have been launching various offensives to take Al-Quneitra from the Syrian government.
Both groups have seen heavy clashes over the past months but the Syrian Army managed to repel many attacks and still holds the most strategic points in and around Al-Quneitra.
Different brigades which belonging to the Free Syrian Army backed by hardline brigades such as Bait Al-Maqdis Islamiya which are close to the Al-Nusra Front launched a offensive to take over Al Hamidiyah & Qahtaniyah. According to opposition sources the rebels managed to enter the village but were quickly pushed back after the Syrian Air Force launched airstrikes on militant positions pushing them out of the village.
The Syrian government has claimed that Al-Qahtaniyah is still under control of the Syrian Army meanwhile opposition sources have claimed to hold parts of the village. The full scale offensive was prepared and executed in a couple days, the offensive was cancelled due to air superiority by the Syrian government which made it impossible for the rebels to keep hold of the village is what activists have claimed.
