Before the advent of Islam Arabia was steeped in the dark ages of ignorance, also known as the age of Jahiliyya. It was an age when people lived depraved lives with no morals or decency. They committed heinous crimes, which are recorded in the history of the Sahabah.
After Islam the Arabs were lifted to the loftiest levels of good character. The lives of the Sahabah, their taqwa and love for the Messenger of Allah remain a guiding light for the Muslims of today. When Islam purified their hearts, the Sahabah would ponder upon their sins in days past and weep, this is such a story when the Prophet was moved to tears from grief at what one of his companions committed in ignorance. This incident is beautifully narrated by Bilal Assad
