Highlights and review of England vs West Indies 2016 ICC World T20 Final. West Indies beat India at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai to qualify for final against England who had already defeated the unbeaten tournament favourites New Zealand at Feroz Shah Kolta in the 1st semi-final.

After stunning India in the semi-final, West Indies qualified to take on England in the final at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, West Indies soon had England in trouble Jason Roy 2nd ball duck followed by Alex Hales dismissal in the second over left England’s middle order completely exposed. After a complete top order failure, a hard fought 54 from Joe Root stabilised the innings in the middle order but another collapse in the lower order left England at reeling at 111 for 7. England recovered to post 155 meaning the West Indies would have to chase down the second highest total ever in an ICC World T20 final for victory.

However, a careless start saw the West Indies reduced to 5 for 2 in the second over of their innings with Joe Root claiming both Charles and Chris Gayle within the same over. England’s hope grew further with the first ball dismissal of Lendl Simmons in the third over leaving the West Indies 11 for 3. More drama in the 7th over, Marlon Samuels was called back to the crease after slow motion replay revealed the ball had touched the ground. Dwayne Bravo was dropped in the 13 over by substitute fielder Sam Billings. It was game on for England when struck David Willey struck twice in the 16th over dismissing Andre Russell and skipper Darren Sammy for miserly figures leaving West Indies 107 for 6.

In the end needing 19 of the last over, it seemed a daunting task for the West Indies but Carlos Brathwaite finished the match in dramatic fashion smashing 4 consecutive sixes to take West Indies to an historic final victory. Heartbreak for England and Ben Stokes but an historic day for the West Indies winning both the men’s and the women’s t20 finals on the same day. West Indies make history becoming first and only team ever to win the ICC World T20 title for a second time.
