Get ready for yet another Transformers movie as a fifth film is on its way and a shared universe has been confirmed. Today’s episode of Clevver News Feed is brought to you by the new movie The Age of Adaline - in theaters Friday! Transformers fans, we’ve got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is, Transformers 5 definitely won’t be making its previously announced June 24th, 2016 release date, but a new movie is on its way and should arrive sometime in Summer 2017. During a recent Hasbro earnings call, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner revealed the new release plan and confirmed plans are currently underway for a fifth Transformers movie that would be a direct sequel to last year’s hit Transformers: Age of Extinction. No word yet on if Michael Bay will return behind the camera to direct the sequel. Last year he hinted that he may not return, but he said the same thing about Transformers 4 and ended up returning to launch a new direction for the franchise. The other good news is Goldner also confirmed recent reports of plans to expand the franchise into a Marvel style shared universe that would include spinoffs focusing on other characters and possibly other worlds. He also confirmed that Insurgent writer Akiva Goldsman has been brought on to lead the group of writers that will create a strategic plan to develop stories from quote, “the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology.” A fifth film and the desire to create a shared universe shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering last year’s Age of Extinction earned over a billion dollars worldwide and was the second highest grossing installment behind 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Though it was the least successful of the franchise domestically, it was a huge hit overseas, particularly in China, where it was partially filmed. So who’s disappointed we’ll have to wait another 2 years for a new Transformers movie and which characters would you like see get spinoff movies? Until next time, I’m Joslyn Davis, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news!
