Some rare clips from one of the first popular talk-shows on Pakistan television: the Zia Mohiuddin Show.
It ran on PTV between 1972 and 1973 and set the precedent for all TV stage and talk shows that followed in Pakistan.
The clips include Zia (himself a well-known intellectual, men’s fashion icon and stage and film actor at the time) talking to:
(1) a Pakistani woman author and Women’s Lib activist;
(2) To Mohammad Ali (the time’s leading Pakistani film star) who is taken on by a firey young Khushbakht Shujaat (who today is a leading member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movment – MQM but at time had just graduated from the Karachi University); and
(3) Famous Urdu satirist, Mushtaq Ahmed Yusufi and a woman driving instructor.
The quality of spoken Urdu is exceptional.
