Real life mermaid footage of mermaid caught on tape in the Philippines. 2015 Documentary as seen on Animal Planet and Discovery Channel.
Is this real evidence of a mermaid caught on video by tourists in the Philippines Letts find out on Hoax Factor?
Hoax Factor Fan and Subscriber V Wilson sent me this comment on our Real Mermaid Born video.
WTF?!!! Did you see the video of the Mermaid in the Philippines? Is this real?
I started to do some research to find out what he was talking about when I finally came across this story posted just weeks ago
According to the website Today In Manila, the footage was shot at London Beach which is located in General Santos city in the Philippines and shows what appears to be a mermaid swimming away.
The site also reported that the video was uploaded on Facebook by Jovelyn Balinas and of course has since gone viral.
So is this a real life mermaid or not?
The ocean is a mysterious place and is considered by man to be the real final frontier.
The ocean covers over 70% of the earth and drives our weather, regulates temperature and helps to support all living organisms, but we have justexplored a measly 5% of it....5%
Marine engineer and submarine designer Graham Hawkes stated the importance of ocean exploration in about the most polite way he could muster...
(edit in ted talk video here)
“Your rockets are pointed in the wrong goddamn direction!”
Now of course he designs Submarines for a living, so he does have a financial stake in all this...but he goes on to make a very valid point...
The unexplored oceans hold mysteries more compelling, environments more challenging, and life-forms more bizarre than anything the vacuum of space has to offer. Plus, it’s cheaper to go down than up
He's right when it comes to bizarre life forms living in the deepest regions of the ocean like:
The Gulper Eel
The Fangtooth fish
Or what clearly looks like a creature made for a horror movie about fish being changed by radiation the Humpback Anglerfish.
These are all real creatures that exist, which we wouldn't know about if it hadn't been for exploration.
So could mermaids possibly be real?
I guess if this can exist, hen so can this...(angler fish vs mermaid pictures)
Mermaid mythology extends as far back as Syria circa 1000 bc.
The legend tells the story fo Syrian Goddess Atargatis dove into a lake to turn herself into a fish.
But the gods wouldn't allow her to give up her beauty, so they only turned her bottom half into a fish and forcing her to keep her top half in human form.
The mermaid mythology even took the form of Sirens in Home's epic tale “The Odyssey.”
Mermaids were often evil creatures who mesmerized their victims through their beauty and singing. The legends tell of sailors who would see these beautiful creatures and jump into the water to save them only to be eaten or drowned.
But the mermaid story has taken on a much more gentler tone since Hans Christian Andersen wrote his most famous story The Little Mermaid.
In recent years there have been mermaid sightings all over the world, The Animal Planet even did a full length movie for their channel which garnered them their highest ratings of any show they aired before. Over 7,000,000 people tuned in to watch what later turned out to be a hoax.

There is nothing I would like more than to find out one of these mythical creatures was real. Whether its bigfoot, the loch ness monster, or a really hot mermaid. I of course would prefer the really hot mermaid.
Reporter Jessica Soho from Philippines GMA Network covered the story and during her investigation, it turned out that someone else had caught the same event from a different angle.
Thank you once again V wilson for sending in the question. If you have a question or a topic you would like for us here at Hoax Factor to cover, send us a message through are page on FB.
Now to answer your question. Is this real?
Yes, its a real life marine mammal that is closely related to the sea cow, called a Dugong.
From the right camera angle it does look like some unknown creature, possibly a mermaid is swimming away.
But no sexy mermaid today internets!
