A Florida drama teacher has lost her teaching license more than a year after school officials fired her for kissing a student during class.
Lake Worth High School fired Jessica Rivera, 30, in 2014 after learning she had kissed a 17-year-old boy and sent him romantic text messages.
Rivera, who was married at the time of the encounter, reportedly texted the student that “she would like to kiss him and that her marriage was not going well,” the state report said, according to the Sun Sentinel.
The unidentified student met Rivera while volunteering behind the scenes for the school play.
Once the play was over, Rivera brought in a movie and cake for her class. While the rest of the students watched “Aladdin,” Rivera kissed the student on the risers at the back of the room, according to the report.
The pair made out for roughly 20 minutes, authorities later discovered.
The story came out when a parent of the boy’s friend contacted police.
The teen later told authorities Rivera had also touched his upper thigh, the SunSentinal reported. Rivera was fired in February of last year.
She will not face charges because the pair reportedly never had sex.
“She further acknowledged during the interview that she knew what she was doing was inappropriate and admitted to making a mistake,” the police report stated.
