Disney’s hit Frozen introduced us to a talking snowman, rock trolls and a guy who was a little too affectionate with his pet reindeer and now a new short is set to introduce us to living snow snot. It’s been over a year since Disney’s Frozen became a huge culture phenomenon and went on to become the highest grossing animated film of all-time and while fans anxiously await for word of a sequel, they’ll have to settle for the appropriately titled new short film, Frozen Fever, set to arrive in theaters this weekend ahead of Disney’s new live-action Cinderella movie. We say the name is appropriate for two reasons; one, it symbolizes the craze that people still have for the characters and two, the plot focuses on the magical Elsa getting a cold on the same day she’s planning a surprise birthday party for her sister, Anna. In addition to a whole new song that will inevitably get stuck in your head until the next piece of Frozen material gets thrust upon us, the short will also introduce us to a whole new set of characters known as “The Snowgies”. We got a quick glimpse of them in the trailer, but a new poster reveals them in all their adorable glory. Frozen Fever producer Peter Del Vecho told Yahoo that the characters were originally conceived as “mini Olafs”, but the creators decide that they wanted to keep Olaf pure so the idea evolved into fun little snowballs that pop out whenever Elsa sneezes. See, living snow snot. The “snowgies” are described as mischievous little creatures that are sure to cause lots of havoc, but also bring a lot of fun to the land of Arendelle. Frozen director Jennifer Lee revealed that the short was originally set to center around Olaf, but then the idea of magical sniffles came up followed by the idea of Anna’s birthday party and the rest is, as they say, history. For those of you excited for the new short, but wondering when we’ll get an actual full length Frozen sequel, the filmmakers say, despite many rumors, there are no current plans with Lee telling Buzzfeed quote, “Until we find our way into what’s next, emotionally, it will feel too big. We just finished the short two weeks ago. One year ago, it was a lot to even think about doing a short. We were quite tired. We don’t really know what it’s like to stop for a minute and think about what we want to do next.” For now, fans will have to be content with the new short and the upcoming Broadway show that is expected to arrive in 2017 with some new songs that are being written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the team behind original hit “Let It Go” and the new song that will debut in Frozen Fever. So who’s planning to see Frozen Fever in front of Cinderella this weekend and do you think the “snowgies” will be the next big hit?
